Body Scrubs & Eclipse Moons

It has been quite a few moons since my last blog post… I don’t know about you guys, but I’m finding this year is flying by! I’ve been busy expanding my knowledge of working the interwebs, growing my social media, creating projects, and meeting a lot of very awesome people.

To make up for my lack of posting, I thought I would share with you a few home-made recipes I’ve been indulging in lately.

The first is a body scrub I whipped up today; I like my body scrubs as healing and rehydrating as possible to my skin. I get psoriasis break out from time to time, and I’m also very reactive to certain additives, so I like to make sure all my ingredients are high quality and really pure.

I also like to create things with holistic purpose in mind, cos that’s just the kinda girl I am. When I’m selecting the essential oils to use, I think not only about what properties my skin needs to benefit from, but what healing effects I might need on an emotional and mental level too; am I sleeping well, am I anxious/depressed/feeling stuck/ wanting to hide in a pillow fort? Are things I might also address. Especially during the build up to a full moon eclipse, as we are at present, when things are bound to get more intense. (March 23rd peeps, mark it in your calendars!)

The essential oils I have used in this blend are grounding, soothing, balancing, and heart opening, perfect for physical and energetic cleansing. They are great for your skin, and of course, smell amazing!

You will need:

Rose essential oil (10-12 drops at 3% dilution)

Frankincense oil (5-6 drops)

Sandalwood oil (5 drops)

Vetiver oil (4 drops)

Raw organic coconut oil as a base oil (30-40mls or so)

Raw sugar (about 1 cup)

A wooden spoon & two small ceramic or glass mixing bowls

Method:

  • Combine your essential oils in a small bowl, mix them together by swishing the bowl around gently. This is how oils are ‘synergised’ or blended best.
  • Gently melt your coconut oil by standing he jar in warm water. Or you can add the coconut oil to the essential oils, and hold it over a cup of steaming water until it liquefies. The oil shouldn’t at any time ‘feel’ warm, as this will destroy the properties. Just
let the bowl get warm on the outside and the oil will melt.
  • Mix the coconut oil and EO’s together with the wooden spoon, then pour them over the sugar in the second bowl.
  • Combine the wet and dry ingredients with the spoon, gently. Let it stand for a moment before you decide if you need to add more oil, or more sugar to get the consistency you desire.
  • Then add the mixture into an airtight container right away, and keep it in a cool dark place. Use it within 2-3 weeks.
  • If you have very dry skin; after scrubbing, leave the mixture on your skin for little while to absorb the oils. Rinse with warm water and pat your skin dry.

You can of course use any essential oil combo you like. You can add salt or coffee grinds or oat’s. You could try a base oil of jojoba, macadamia, hemp seed or a blend of several. Go nuts with the chemistry set, aka kitchen ingredients. And, if your home is like mine (ie full of fur babies) you may have the unintentionally added cat hair or 12, for extra love and magick.

If you follow me on Instagram, you would have noticed a few weeks ago I posted a pic of a turmeric and ginger latte I made. I got the idea from my friend Lauren, who is also a Naturopath and runs SML Lifestyle. She and I studied at the same school and graduated together, I know you will all love her as much as I do if you check out her page!

I’m probably now addicted to these latte’s and they are so amazing. Not only delicious, but so energising. They will also help with digestion issues, and any inflammation. If you need more convincing, check out this amazing article.

To make one of these babies: combine 1 teaspoon each of grated fresh ginger and turmeric into a cup of your favourite non-dairy milk in a saucepan. Gently heat all the while whisking together. Add some vanilla bean, and a teaspoon of your favourite sweetener (I used rice syrup). Pour & strain into a cup when it is warm enough, and enjoy!

So, here are just a few of my self-nourishing little escapades that help keep me grounded, balanced and healthy when life is busy and full of epic moonbeams. Don’t forget to sign up for my newsletter if you haven’t already, to be in my VIP loop 😉

Much love & kitchen witchery,
